The recommendations say to apply to clean damp hair. I did that the first time and decided that was going to be way too much shampooing to do it that way. I apply it when my hair is dry to my scalp. I love these hairbrushes!! My daughter has tight curly hair and these brushes are the only brush that has truly ever worked for her hair.
